ROTARY PROJECT - A NEW TOILET BLOCK FEB 2007
At the moment there is only one water supply and very limited toilet facilities. Water from a bore hole goes to a small open bathing area. This means that the children get up very early in the dark so that they can bathe with some privicy in small groups. The girls go first followed by the boys and at the same time they wash their clothes.
Reading Maiden Erlegh Rotary working with a local Rotary Club in India the Trichy Club, have employed a water diviner to locate an additional water source. The Trichy Club, using Rotary funds, have already established a new bore hole and the associated pumpwork. Using this supply the intention is to build a new toilet block which will provide proper toilet facilities for all the chidren close to their accomodation blocks and enable all the children to bathe in privicy and relative comfort. Reading Maiden Erlegh Rotary have raised £2000 which with supporting grants from their District and Rotary International, will cover the total cost of £7000. The bulk of this will come from a Rotary International Foundation Fundwhich all Rotary clubs contribute to worldwide..
Trichy Rotary helped with the design and planning of the new block and has organised the Contract. Trichy Rotarians will also supervise the work and it is hope that it will be completed by the end of summer 2007.
This project is just part of a broader plan to upgrade and improve the infrastructure of the Orphanage.
