Match Report - 13th October - Otley

Otley 5 - 1 Chubb

Having always been our biggest challenge, Otley claimed victory over us in our first match against them this season.

Although the team hung together very well, and played much better positional play than in earlier matches throughout, the Otley team have a knack of taking advantage of not playing the Off-Side rule, and always slip a couple of players behind defence when we are least expecting it, only to have the ball moved forward by their midfield for a one-on-one with the Chubb goalie - kindly played by Ben this week.

All bar one of their goals were scored this way, and although our defence, Seb and Luke, did a superb job during this match - further confirmed by Luke receiving his first Man of the Match for his best performance yet - they played their recurring strategy to full effect.

Joshua scored his first goal of the season which was a cracking shot from 20 yards out, curling and just clipping the inside of the right-hand post - putting their goalie at full stretch.  We're not sure what it is, but the only goals Joah ever scores are against Otley, so I'm working hard on brainwashing him that every team is just another incarnation of them.

Chris, Sam and Johnny all worked hard up front, but were unable to find the target despite many attempts.

We certainly had the ball for a good portion of the match, we didn't allow them to control us at all, we just didn't capitalise on the chances we had.

Hard luck boys - keep practicing over the school break (especially your power of shot and accuracy), and we'll be back together for the next fixture against Addingham.
