Match Report - 6th October
Menston 2 - 3 Chubb
Thank you to Menston for hosting the match last Saturday, and what a match it was, culminating in Chubb's first win of the season, and giving the boys the much needed taste of success to take them into their future games.
Another mention of thanks to the parents of the Chubb players for their continued support and camaraderie, we had more players this weekend and were able to play with 9-a-side, with 2 on the sub bench! - fantastic turn out.
The pre-match talk obviously did the trick (:-)) as the boys launched into their offensive against a very well organised and structured team.
Despite coming under heavy fire, Chubb defended superbly and set Sam up beautifully for the first goal of the match mid way through the first half. With their spirits not dented, Menston sontinued to put our goal under pressure, and Tom, our goalkeeper, was absolutely fantastic in some of his saves - really determination to protect his goal and it showed in the final score line. Well done Tom.
Menston finally managed to sneak one through to level the scores at 1-all heading into half time.
The pitch is on quite a slant, and Menston had chosen to be running uphill for the first half (on fresh legs), so when the second half started, it was our boys that had the mountain to climb - already tired, but driven by the thirst for victory, they ploweed into the 2nd half with as much passion and determination as the 1st. Being Captain this week, Joshua did a great job to lead his team, especially in the 2nd half - keeping them organised and well positioned, and this contributed significantly to the moral of the team, not to mention Sams 2nd goal that came shortly after the start of the 2nd half.
Once again, Menston fought hard, and Seb, Luke and Cameron had their work cut out in defence, with every effort being made to fend of their attempts at goal - stopping many, but another slipped through bring the score to another levelling at 2-all.
Both teams were desperate for the winning goal, their goaly being under significant pressure:

There was no doubt that both teams wanted this win, but with minutes to spare, Ben scored what turned out to be the winning goal and sealed the victory for Chubb.
Midfield were strong througout - Chris (with a couple of great shots on goal), Michael, Johnny and Josh worked really well to intercept their advances - this was harder than you can imagine on a small pitch as the ball was often over their heads. Henry, Ben and Sam played a controlled and careful game up front, and Luke, Seb and Cameron were a formidable force at the back. Tom in goal - you were fantastic.
Thank you to Jonathan (Asst. Asst. Mgr) for the supply of drinks and oranges this week - appreciated.
Everyone worked really hard and I have to admit to having the toughest choice yet for Man of the Match, but in the end, I awarded MotM to Sam this week.
Well Done Everyone!
