Match Report - 29th September
Chubb 6 - 7 Finlay B
In the true spirit of Cub football, after finding out that Finlay only had 5 players and we had a staggering 7, we kindly lent them a player who unfortunately then led to them scoring 2 goals against us within the first few minutes - much to the dismay of the team and the dads.
However, John (Finlay's Coach), looked extremely happy!
We should have easilly won the game with the quality of our players. As always, our team rallied together, ran their socks off and scored great goals.
This then opened it up to be a fantastic match, with both teams working extremely hard to score the 13 goals that made it past the keepers.
Again, Sebastian was fantastic in defence, having to defend on his own against a swarm of Finlay players.
Luke bravely took on the position of goaly for the first time in his career and had to cope with Finlay battering away at him.
Cameron then took over being goalie, and Sam, Chris and Johnny started to work together as a team, which led to a fantastic come back with many goals in the second half, which turned it into a nailbiting game to the very end.
Half time score had us at 1 - 3, with the deficit increasing to 1 - 4 at the beginning of the 2nd half, so to finish 6-7 (where all the goals were scored in the last 15 minutes or so), although a loss, must really give the team a huge lift and shows just how much fun the game can be when working together as a team.
It's great to have the support of the parents, who are commenting on how much they are enjoying the touch line banter and the fact that their kids always get a game - thank you for your continued support, it really is invaluable.
Despite a sterling effort by everyone, the result didn't quite fall in our favour. However, with only 6 people covering a pitch as big as this, it requires real effort, determination and passion to fight as hard as these boys did, and I'm really proud of their commitment.
Man of the match went to Chris - a really huge WELL DONE!
He was chosen by the assistant to the assistant manager (:-)), Jonathan Brierley - our thanks go to him for sharing the responsibilty (and stress) with Jason, he obviously worked some magic in the 2nd half.
Well done everyone, see you on Saturday.
