Many of the rules that govern black cabs are hundreds of years old , for example

There is room for a gentleman to sit in the back without removing his top hat

No person who knows he is suffering from a notifiable disease may enter a cab without notifying the driver

 

A person who dishonestly obtains services( eg hiring of a cab ), by deception is guilty of an offence

(unlimited fine and 5 years imprisonment - theft act 1978)

It's also still the law, that Hackney Cab drivers should carry a bale of hay! (For the horse).....lol.
