This event will focus on the implications and ramifications of devices and services based on the principals of the iPhone, Android, Symbian and other (integrated mobile hardware, software and services (eg: location)) platforms.
With the recent release of the iPhone 3G, the upcoming launch of Android and the dominant position of Symbian we are now entering a new phase of the mobile Internet.
Integrated mobile devices, applications and services such as those offered by iPhone, iTunes, AppStore and Apple (Mac) appear to offer consumers what they need - simplicity. On the other hand open platforms not based on propriety technology may also play a significant role moving forwards.
Location, 3G, WiFi, cameras and video are now all standard features on such devices. What new applications & services are emerging, what new products and services can now be created using mashups of these new capabilities ?
What are the strategic and tactical issues that executives, entrepreneurs and investors should make when considering this future.
The implications are massive for all businesses - those that understand and develop strategies to facilitate customer, supplier and employee communications and management using these new tools will win.
iPhone is building the latest, biggest and greatest version of compuserve and AOL. Is following in the steps of the walled gardens the best approach for customers since we (the consumer) have already rejected this model several time in favour of the open internet. Is Apple’s new integrated systems and devices different or is it doomed to fail.
This workshop style event will be held on the 3rd October from 10am - 4pm in central London
This Workshop event from 10.00 to 16.00 will provide a forum for the people, organisations and companies working in the 'local' sector affected by and developing solutions, to collaborate around a number of key issues.
There will be 4 hours of ‘sessions’ and 4 main topics. The idea of each session is to provide:
10 mins - 2 Speakers to say 5 min each on the subject
40 mins - whole group to break into groups of 6 to discuss
10 mins - the moderator for that session to pull key findings from each group into a summary which can be discussed by the whole group
The issues that the workshop/conference will cover include:
The UK government has been announcing that they are opening up (or intend to open up) vast databases of public data for use by the digital industry and other organisations. The prime issue being that the data is in raw form and cannot easily be used by the public. Therefore there is a need for innovative companies to take the raw data or a selection of it and present it in a form that is accessible.
Ignoring privacy, data protection act and security as absolution roadblocks; what are the issues that need to be considered in order for our Government to engage with innovative companies and the wider public through digital products and services.
The focus of this event is on use (and abuse) of information, it is not about voting, ID cards, wisdom of crowds for policy formulation or any other deep political agenda. The theme is aimed at:-
· how to improve the access to information for the public using web technologies
· developing innovation and being able to introduce it into the Government
. should Government endorse use of its raw data and how should it make it available
Should the public have access to the data in order to define what should be visible to outside angencies and what should not. How could this be done.
. if the output of the innovation shows a different metric to Government interruption - should there be controls?
· Should commercial companies be able to sell this data and the analysis and should the government be party to the profits (or even sell access) outside of normal tax's.
. How much of our personal data held by the Government should be available (and to who and on what terms)
Money 3.0 - what are the implications of the changing economy for the digital sector? Should you raise money, sell or panic, what is the best strategy for 2009?
