Now *I* know what a DLA is...
mashup* was a great success. Thanks to the team, BT, etribes - Tony Fish, Stephen Stokols, Sam Sethi, Marc Canter & Tariq Krim for speaking and sitting on the panel. I learnt a lot and really enjoyed the evening.
The photos are up at http://www.etribes.com/gallery/view/31229
Also a short (80MB though) video is available at http://www.etribes.com/sites/etribes.com/files/MOV02241.MPG (and yes we're adding inline support for Flash Playback on your etribes LifeSite - *very soon*.
FT coverage
I noticed a nice piece about etribes/Midentity today in the Financial Times. Click the photo to see the original version. What I particulary like is that the focus is moving from 'Social Networking' to 'Digital Lifestyle Aggregators' - very timely given mashup* pushed past the 200 attendees mark...
mashup* - going up...
etribes is a sponsor of mashup* which will be held on the 21st September. I started mashup* back in February when over 120 professionals attended the 1st event where we discussed 'Personal Digital Identity'. We then held a 2nd event in May themed 'Personal Publishing - beyond blogging' - which was also a great success.
This month sees the return of mashup* when we'll be talking about 'Digital Lifestyle Aggregators' with a fantastic speaker, panel and moderator. Attendance is up, in fact I suspect we'll end up turning people away - BT Centre can only accomodate 172 people. We've secured some great sponsors - BT & LogicaCMG - so thanks to the digital web teams in those organisations.
It's clear that the 'Digital Lifestyle Aggregators' meme has caught the curiosity of a lot of people in the industry so I'm looking forward to a lively and interesting evening. I'll be asking three key questions myself:
1) what is a Digital Lifestyle Aggregator (DLA)?
2) what business models work in relation to DLAs?
3) who will be the major players over the next 3 years?
Should be interesting.
If you'd like to attend please register at www.etribes.com/mashup/register
Back to school...
It's the 1st of September. I've not blogged for a few months, we've been busy.
1) Mark Sait joined us as Chief Operating Officer (COO) - read his blog at www.etribes.com/marksait
2) We've acquired etribes Limited - read Luke Brynley-Jones's blog at www.etribes.com/luke
3) We've improved the etribes Deskbar and Online interfaces and during the next few weeks will release a much improved version of both services.
4) We've agreed a number of marketing partnerships with media and retail businesses.
5) We held a launch event at BT Tower on the 19th July.
6) I've helped organise mashup* which will be held at BT Center on the 21st September.
7) We closed another round of private funding - we were oversubscribed by 100%.
8) We've completed technical engineering work that will improve the speed and scalability of our services.
And... we've expanded & revamped our office. Here's Mark infront of the wall in our new Operations/Marketing Centre.

my mashup* Presentation
A lot of people have asked for these. Full credit must go to Dick Hardt (of SXIP) for his presentation style which I used. See below PPS attachments of mine and Jamie's (Myspace) presentations.mashup* May
Thanks to everyone who made the 2nd mashup* possible. I thought the evening was interesting, lively and valuable. Particular thanks to Ray Anderson, Tom Bureau, Jamie Kantrowitz, Marc Canter and Tony Hallet for sitting on the panel.
There are some photos and a feedback form available on the mashup* website.
If you have any specific ideas for themes, speakers, panel members or event style please contact me. We'll post details of the next event (provisional date is the 29th June) on the mashup* site next week.
mashup* May - tonights the night...
I'm looking forward to tonight. It's the 2nd mashup* Event that we're proud to be sponsors of. There are over 175 senior professional executives from the media, telecoms, communications and publishing industries so we should certainly have a lively debate.
Mark Sait who officially joined Midentity today as our COO will be with Luke Brynley-Jones, Roger Craven and I to join the debate.
etribes launches etribes Life - have you got a LifeSite yet?
etribes Limited (a company I co-founded) today announced the general availability of etribes Life, it's Personal Publishing (blogging) platform.
A PDF of the etribes Life Press Release is available here.
Right now etribes isn't disclosing user figures but they're already impressive given it has not yet been launched. The power of an individuals social network is not to be underestimated.
When you sign up (it's free for the base version called... etribes Life Base) you'll be asked to create your own personal URL - mine is etribes.com/simong - that's called a LifeSite. So my LifeSite is etribes.com/simong
Here is my prediction for 2006 - by the end of 2006 75% of professionals in the UK will have their own personal website. Not having one will be a little bit like not having a buiness card. People will expect to be able to find out more about you and your company via your own personal website - in fact to be more specific - people will expect you to have a professional looking, non-advertising supported personal website that reflects your core values as an individual.
It's important to understand something here. Your personal website should not be *directly* connected with the company you currently work for. Why? Because life changes and you may not be always working for the same company but you'll always be you. Well - most people will ;)
I will always be at: etribes.com/simong - and because I'm a Subscriber (£24/annum) that is guaranteed. For me - that is a small price to pay for knowing that I'll always be at etribes.com/simong and that it will always be advert free.
busy...
It's been a *very* busy few months since my last post.
In a snapshot:
mashup* on the 8th February was a great success. mashup* May is on the 2nd May - there are already 85 senior executives from the mobile, telco, VOIP, Internet, search, PC and media sectors registered and confirmed to attend so it looks like it will be a good evening. Sign up at www.etribes.com/mashup/register
Some photos of the mashup* February are available at: www.etribes.com/mashup/february
Midentity announced our Distribution deal with 118118 in the UK - see www.118118.com for how we are working together (look out for the etribes logos...).
I attended the 6th Annual European Directory Marketplace Conference in Rome, Italy. I learnt a lot about where the Directory business is going and soon will have some news in relation to that.
Midentity was a showcase company at the Innovation & Growth Forum in late February. We received a great deal of interest from potential partners, investors and corporate customers - watch this space...
Midentity has now got a new name for it's retail services - etribes Contacts.
