Special Guest Appearance
Saturday's match saw the appearance of a very special guest - Paul Merton! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Merton).
Paul had heard of the Ilkley Chubb's through his showbiz circles, apparently being regularly discussed within the corridors of the beeb.
Thanks Paul!

Match Report - 17th November
Finlay A 2 - 1 Chubb
Finlay A, once again, managed to score an early goal from a well taken corner, and defend well through the first half to head into half time 1 - 0 up.
Chubb fought hard to break through their defence with some great shots at goal from Josh (who probably played his best game yet), Chris, Dan and Johnny, but despite the efforts of all the forwards in driving the ball up the pitch, we were unable to get past their defences.
Finlay regrouped at half time, and positioned themselves well again at the beginning of the second half to drive home another goal to put us 2 - 0 down. For most teams, this would have affected moral to the extent where they would never have stood a chance of coming back - but not for the Ilkley Chubbs. Finding some additional strength from somewhere, they ran into overdirve and took control of the match, with Dan finally getting our only goal from the half way line.
Defence once again require a special mention, with Tom, Michael, Seb, Luke and Jacob providing a solid wall which is proving very hard for any team to penetrate. Midfield with Dan, Josh and Chris have been doing a superb job keeping the ball moving up to Sam, Cameron and Johnny up front.
Our weakness at the moment is taking shots at goal - we seem to wait for the perfect opportunity to be presented. We need to take more chances and more shots at goal, defence is strong enough to stop any mishaps or retaliations from any failed attempts, but we have to make those shots.
Man of the Match went to the hardest worker and the ultimate goal scorer on the day - Dan.
Parents, once again you've excelled, I've ordered the Grandstand for the touchline given that there are now so many that come along in support :-) - thank you.
Looking forward to seeing you all this coming Saturday.

Match Report - 3rd November
Finlay B 1 - 5 Chubb (would have been 7, but 2 were disallowed)
Our first conclusive victory of the season - what a fantastic match.
The team played like they'd be playing together all year so far..., oh, they have!!
Finally, it's come together, both in number and in talent. The hardest part for any young person to understand, is to remain in position (even when the action is happening elsewhere), give options to your team-mates by doing so, and pass the ball quickly when you get it - keep it, and the team, moving forward. They cracked it this week and the result shows it!
Despite being in the winning position throughout the match, the team never let go - they continued to work hard to the very end. Finlay B put up a galant fight, and their passion was obvious throughout, but Michael, Seb, Jacob (Sub) and Luke in defence simply wouldn't let them get anywhere near goal. Defence was superb, with Man-of-the-Match passing to Michael - fantastic game guys.
Mid-field worked extremely well too this week, with almost all of our goals coming from the players in this section - Josh scored 2 but had one disallowed, Dan scored 3 and had one disallowed, Chris scored 1 and Sam from up front put the final one in the back of the net.
Finally, a HUGE thankyou goes to the parents - there seemed to be more supporters on our sideline this week than ever before (wives included!!!), and we had a full complement of 9 for the team too. I know that getting out of bed on a Saturday morning to stand in a cold (& often wet) field watching a sport you probably don't like is hard, but this last weeks result shows what that support can produce. I think we'd all agree that the boys are making it all worthwhile.
The next match will be on the 17th November, at HOME. Further details to follow next week.
Well done Chubb!!
P.S. - Sorry no pictures this week - I forgot to organise a camera! (DOH!)
